A Wabi Sabi masterpiece by Serge Anton

When French-Belgian photographer Serge Anton inherited 'Mon Désir', a cottage built by his great grandfather in the French Ardennes, he had mixed feelings. The hundred-year-old holiday home contained many warm, family memories. At the same time, its interior was outdated and needed to be refurbished. So Serge, an avid lover of architecture and design, decided to renovate Mon Désir himself. Under his supervision, the characteristic cottage was transformed into a wabi-sabi masterpiece.

The photographer feels the need to be at one with nature. "I am drawn to rough materials, where the intrinsic beauty lies in its imperfections. Through erosion, rustic forms and textures are created that ooze a timeless elegance." And so Serge incorporated as many natural materials and colors as he possibly could. From the micro concrete floors to the unevenly painted walls in brown, green and blue tints: the house immerses you in nature.

He finished off this wabi-sabi masterpiece with an eclectic mix of contemporary furniture and decoration, including Ethnicraft’s N701 sofa, Osso stools and a round mirror. “Mon Désir blends in with nature. It is a place for peace and quiet”, says Serge. “Ethnicraft perfectly embodies that same essence.
