Sector: Hospitality

Interior Design: Ellen Vanhie, Aurum

Located in the picturesque municipality of Meise, Belgium, is Sterckxhof, a 17th century “closed manor farm” turned bed and breakfast with classic European charm. The B&B was named after the Sterckx family, who converted the court in the 19th century into a residence for their son, Cardinal. The well-maintained property today is owned and managed by Anne Stallaert and her daughter Sylvie De Maegd.

I have known Ethnicraft for a very long time, and the style of the furniture fits perfectly into this story.                   - Ellen Vanhie, interior designer

The historic Presbyterian Church at Sterckxhof, just north of Brussels, has been completely renovated to modern standards while respecting its authentic elements. The building has been converted into six roomy suites to host couples, families and anyone in need of a restorative getaway.

To complement the tranquil atmosphere, Ellen Vanhie, the creative force behind design firm Aurum, designed the interior space. Vanhie has a passion for all things beautiful, and her personal approach led to a peaceful atmosphere for the property’s guests.

Her design firm’s motto: “Do you love where you live?” is something Vanhie asks when hired to design a space. It was important for guests of Sterckxhof to feel at home, surrounded in comfort and luxury.

“Do you love where you live ?”

When sourcing pieces for the space, Vanhie considered the character of the building with the goal of creating an oasis of peace. She knew that Ethnicraft would provide the quality and craftsmanship needed. Vanhie explained, “I have known Ethnicraft for a very long time, and the style of the furniture fit perfectly into this story.”

The historic nature of the property is lovingly preserved while balancing modern conveniences and comforts, and the beauty and stability of Ethnicraft’s solid wooden furniture was a natural fit for the project.
