Mother of two and self-professed ‘creative jack of all trades’ Els Lambrechts opens her gates and welcomes us to enjoy her lovely garden.

Els Lambrechts finds joy in the little things, particularly in nature. Spending time outside and tending to the garden allows her to live in the moment and connect with the earth, where she can live out her very own fairy tale.

Els’ home is just as picturesque as her outdoor space — wanting a house with a soul, she renovated an old chapel, layering beauty of both the old and the new. To furnish her home, she looked for quality furniture, made of natural materials, with which to centre around to create authentic moments with her loved ones.

I am a real outdoor type of person. What I love the most is just to be in my garden... In the beginning when we bought the house, it was the only thing I was interested in. I really fell in love with my garden, and so it became my fairy tale.

HOW DO YOU CONNECT YOUR
INTERIOR AND OUTDOOR SPACE?

It was my personal challenge to bring the same outdoor fairy tale feeling into the house. A feeling that is very nice, priceless, about tranquillity.

Our house has a real soul; we have a protected chapel that we had to maintain. For me it is important that our decor and furniture also have a soul. We have a concrete floor that overflows from our house to the garden. I also consciously only use wood species that originate in my garden, so you won't find tropical plants in my home.

My family and friends are the most important for me. I live to give them good times. Life is too short, so we better enjoy it to the fullest. So creating moments and living a great quality of life by admiring the outdoors is what I live for.

One of the things I like to do is to throw magical garden parties. A long table where many people gather, ready to enjoy. It is those wonderful moments that make me happy.

I really enjoy life. Life for me means being together and eating — socialising, bringing people together. At home, we can look from upstairs to our dining table downstairs. Last time when we had people over, I took a moment for myself, and when I overlooked the gathering, a table filled with food and people, I got emotional because that makes me so happy.

My favourite moment is to set the table. The details are what make the party perfect. The quietness and peace before the magical moment, the announcement of a great moment. I look forward to this time, just me and the table. To make it beautiful for my guests to remember.
